Virtual Symposium- Inspiration is to Breath Inspiration is to Breathe! Inspiration comes from the Latin word: inspirare, from in- + spirare to breathe. Inspiration is to have someone breathe life to your ideas, actions, or emotions. This fresh breath of air or different perspective often is all it takes to guide, motivate, influence, or infuse us. I remember, while at boot camp in the Army, my drill sergeants inspired me to do things I did not think I could do. Who knew I could complete a 50 mile road march in two days. How about my black hat instructors at Army Jump School- they inspired me to jump out of airplanes and parachute down to earth. And when I was going through a divorce, I was inspired to train and complete a marathon. The pain and angst of the divorce gave me fodder and fuel to complete this grueling 24.6 mile run. When I go fishing and there is no one around, the nature I experience breathes life into my soul and lifts me up. Graduating high school and college is very inspirational and exciting- it seems the world is all open to us. Getting married or attending a wedding is inspirational- it allows us to be unselfish and more altruistic. There are plenty of people who have inspired me: My father gave me a sense of right and wrong- my moral compass. My grandmother gave me my love of cooking and being detailed. My grandfather gave me humor and the ability to laugh at yourself. My taught me humility and ultimate sacrifice. Friends from all parts of my life enlivened me and help gave me confidence. My lovers gave me courage to try new things and to explore my sexuality. Inspiration went both ways. I know I inspired people in my life. I hope I helped them find their confidence, expressions, emotions, ideas, love, and humor. Encouragement and inspiration is what I needed in my life, especially when I was at a difficult crossroad or when I needed to make a difficult decision. I have had my trials and tribulations and I had experienced lots of pain and suffering. But, through of these troubled times, I have always had people offer help and they gave me inspiration to keep moving forward! I helped my friends by listening, consoling, offering a shoulder to cry on, crying with them, and just being there for them. I am very empathetic and caring person, and I have helped many. I feel good when I help people. Inspiration comes from anywhere, anyplace, and from anyone. I have learned to be open to it. When I am stressed or frustrated, I have learned to breathe….take deep breaths- a cleansing breath. Well this post inspired me to look at my relationships with people and how I am inspired by them. Now that I know I have a sister, I definitely feel like I am inspired by her journey trying to find our dad and finding out about me and then finding me, too! I love it that you were inspired by your family members in different ways! Interesting twist: Using oppression to generate inspiration. Kudos, especially, on taking the pain of divorce and turning it into a reason for physical embetterment,. All that said, as someone who likes his feet firmly on a solid surface -- even a jet's floor at 30,000 feet -- it would take a lot more than a drill sergeant to get me to step out of an airplane.
