Freaking Nervous

Summer camp as a was rather devastating.

My dad sent me to a week-long church summer camp a couple times when I was between the ages of 7 and 10.

First: I'd been indoctrinated into the Catholic belief system (Catholic school). This was, I believe, a Baptist camp. Not that it made much difference. I was also pulled out of Catholic school after 2nd grade (school politics made a lot of parents angry and remove their in protest) and was on my own religiously from that point on.

Besides being very reserved, not knowing anybody, not "fitting in" in general... the few friends I did make at camp rejected me after we went to a religious seminar type event and I was the only in the room not crying over how Jesus died on the cross for our sins. I was evil and how dare I not cry for Jesus, etc. I also got in trouble and had my toothpaste taken away for eating it. (we were hungry, it was minty...)

While I'm fairly certain THOSE aspects of summer camp will not be present at Poly Camp... I'm still a bit nervous.

Will the summer camp atmosphere bring negative flashbacks?

Will I "fit in" at all? Will people like me?

OMG!! I'm going camping with tons of people (Smokeblower looked at the class list and guesses there will be around 100 people there, maybe more.

Will I have enough "alone time" to relax?

Well.... Wish me luck! I'm also so excited.

Road Trip!!

Did any of you go to summer camp as a ? How was it? Would you go again now, as an adult, if you had a chance?

Of course games like "Strip Cards Against Humanity" would probably make it much more interesting. Now... had they been playing Strip Settlers of Canaan or Strip slap jack I might have been in. haha.

Hey! You made friends with me and we haven't even actually met, you'll do fine. When I did summer camp it was in my teens so not nearly as traumatizing. Enjoy the activities or not, I assume camp means woods and trails where you can be alone if desired. Keep the "road trip " excitement and you'll have fun.

Meanwhile I'll be floating around on a rust bucket heading to exotic ports
(Nothing exotic about working industrial ports of ANY country. .)

They say it's all about the journey, not the destination. But... if it weren't for the destination I'd be mighty pissed and want my money back hahahah.

Driving the I-5 corridor isn't so bad. It's the "leaving the I-5 corridor for any reason other than actual destination" that sucks. And I refuse to ever drive in Tacoma again.

I hope you were able to relax and let go of some of your insecurities and enjoy yourself.
