What lies beneath
I was sent a wonderful video clip this evening that completely defined the statement "more than meets the eye". It was of a very average and plain looking man who got up on stage for America's Got Talent and sang a Garth Brooks song. His voice was so beautiful that it caught both the judges and the audience off guard. Complete shock and awe washed throughout the building. This very ordinary person has an extraordinary voice! It made me think of all the people that I know personally that are passed over as people only skim the surface, never diving in to see what may lie beneath. Often they are discarded before even being opened at all. Dismissed as unknowable by the shallow many, and known only by the perceptive few. There are some real gems out there buried in the dirt. And it is so fun to dig them up, scrape away what's covering them, polish them up and watch them shine! I have had many friends that do not "fit in" to "normal" society as a whole, and let me tell you, they are some of the best people I have ever known. Their very lack of conformity is what draws me in I suppose, as I have never floated along the main stream. So the next time you see someone that you ordinarily wouldn't say a word to, strike up a conversation. You might just be suprised at what lies beneath.
