What's that fishy smell?

So I'm back from my little imprompto vacation to Maine. My mother and my four girls and I had a wonderful time at the beach and camping out. Corona by the campfire, fresh seafood, good company, smores. What's not to love? I met one of my newer contacts (not from this site) there the first night for drinks and smores, and had a good time getting to know him a little bit. It was a spontaneous meet, and aren't those the best kind? Lots of laughs shared and midget attacks made for some good memories.
The following day was for the beach! Sun and sand, watching my girls enjoy the ocean. I buried some bodies, sculpting my girls into mermaids. They loved it! And you know, I did too.
Lots of people to watch, and my girls made friends with some french speaking girls. It was amusing to watch them try to bridge the language barrier. And it made me think about how easy it is for to make friends wherever they go. "Hey, you, I like you. Let's be friends!" When do we lose this easy ability?
I noticed that all of our hair has lightened considerably in the sun, and our skin has tanned up nicely for the most part. I look at my girls and think how gorgeous they are, and how much trouble they're going to cause me in a few years.
So bodies full of sand in the most unmentionable places, we made our way back to the campground for laundry. The older girls of course wanted to swim in the pool that was across from the machines, so we danced in the water to the music playing on the radio. Fun and frolicking. It made me feel younger and lightened so many of the heavy feelings that have been weighing me down as of late.
And then my cloud caught up with me and it rained all day and all night, and all day again. So we drove around and saw what sites we could, ate out a a great restaurant, and sang songs in our tent until everyone but the youngest was asleep. She of course was wired from sleeping in the van on the drive. Go figure. It was a challenge to dismantle my tent in the rain, and I brought back many a pine needle and a slug or two on it, but I got it done!
I realized on my trip, that the people that you love the most can annoy you to no end, but that I'd be lost without them.
Well now, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. And how was your week?
