It happened one night long ago
It happened one night long ago I was remembering something that happened a long time ago while chatting with a friend of mine today and thought it'd be a good story to share. I used to work at the same nursing home as my then husband opposite shifts so he would bring in the to switch off at the end of my shift. My firstborn would at times point to nothing and say, "Mama he died". I would ask her if she was afraid and she'd say "No, just sad" and go on to describe who she was seeing. At this time we lived in a small apartment. My ex and his 2 shared a room while our slept in a crib in our room. O.K. so most nights she jumped into our bed, whatever. When we moved into a house everyone got their own bedrooms. The laughed and told us that we weren't as lucky as them because they got their own rooms and we had to share one. Our youngest was about to turn 4 and was having a hard time adjusting to sleeping on her own. We explained that she was a big girl now and had her own big girl bed, in her own big girl room. One night she came to my bedroom and asked if she could sleep with me. I told her no, that she had to sleep in her own room and own bed, that this was my room and my bed. She said, "But mama, I'm afraid of the people on the stairs." I asked her what they were doing and she said, "They're going up and down the stairs, just up and down the stairs all the time." "What do they look like?" I asked her. "They're tall and skinny with sharp teeth and red eyes," she told me. "They're really scary." I was beginning to feel a bit nervous. "Where are they now?" I asked her. "At the foot of your bed Mama" She replied. I told her she was beginning to really frighten me and asked her if she was serious. "No mom, I just want to sleep in your bed!" |

It's funny, but this is such a common theme with kids, you almost have to wonder... Both my Daughter and my Niece told stories about people they saw. The adults in the room never saw them... With my Niece, she used to go in to such detail that it really creeped us out. The running joke was that she saw dead people... A few years later, my daughter started doing the same thing. They were both very young at the time. Kinda creepy. Sarcasm is just one of the services I offer.
