People as fish

I "fish" in a lot of different ponds. I live in a rural area. The pickings are slim. And well, I'm particular. If I know I'm not going to be happy, I have no problem throwing one back. I'm not rude about it, or callous, I just know that I don't want to waste my time with something that will go nowhere. If I can be friends with someone, great, visit my pond whenever, we can share some fish flakes and compare notes. But if I'm not attracted in that BIG way, I'm honest about it and leave it to them to decide if friendship is enough or not. If it's not, swim on and good luck.
I get lots of nibbles here and there. I see the bobber pop under the surface on occasion. If they make it to my net we can share a few laughs and get to know each other a little bit. It's not as if I know at first glance whether or not I want to share an aquarium. They flash those scales and maybe do a few tricks trying to impress. I take it all in with a smile. Sometimes it's ridiculous and they try to tell me a fishy tale. Ah, but I've heard them all before, and that twitch in his cold little fishy eye is a dead give away.
There are the ones with lots of trophies on their walls. They call it a "sport". I'm just not interested on being another fish on his wall, with a story to go with it.
There are the ones that want to consume as much fish as they can, never giving it much thought. They catch anything that comes close and don't even stop to savor the moment. Each fish tastes the same to them, none are special. I avoid these kinds of fish mostly. I don't want to be consumed only to be shat out again.
There are the ones that want to keep their fish in a little bowl on a shelf, to be looked at and kept away from the world. Jealously guarded and watched at all times. They think that constant guarding is necessary, lest she swim away to some other pond and fraternize with other fish, not realizing that this kind of treatment makes her swim away faster.
There are a few sharks as well. They're pretty scary, but a good bop on the nose usually makes them swim away for easier prey.
There are fisher-people that use hooks to catch their fish. Not me. I want my fish to come to me voluntarily and vice versa. Some have a fish but keep looking for a better one to swim along. Of course if that other fish doesn't pan out they're begging to be let back into the aquarium they left. The bubbles aren't as shiny as they first appeared.
The ones that do settle down in an aquarium built for two, some don't change the filter and let things build up until things are unbearable. They forget to change the water every so often to keep things fresh. Things get stagnant.
And then there are those that just flit from pond to pond never staying in any one place very long.
There are exotic fish, pretty to look at, but not good for much else.

I guess I'll get back to my fishing now, maybe I'll find someone that's fishing for me too.

What kind of a fish/fisher would you say you are?

I'm also a voluntary fisherman and not a trophy hunter.

Yes, but you're a frog, not a fish.

Nothing wrong with being picky. And brains beat hooks any day.

I fish with TNT. You blow the fuckers right out of the water, collect all the dead bodies, and get the fuck out of dodge before the authorities show up.

I guess I'd be a carp. Nobody likes carp, nobody wants carp, but you can't stop them from taking over the whole pond.

Fish? Hooks? Huh? lol

Good post btw.

Not sure what kinda fish I am, but if I'm fishing, it's always nice for the fish to jump into the bucket. Those kind never get thrown back.

Failing that, gunpoint sometimes works! lol

I knew you'd come up with something I hadn't thought of.

Voluntary is best, gunpoint if desperate. Check.
