Team Captain
Remember back in the day when in PE or just on the playground there was two Team Captains that got to pick their teams for whatever game was going to be played? The best player, the Team Captain's best friend, the most popular was always picked first and the least popular, least athletic, least "cool" was always the leftover, not even really picked, just who the last team to pick got stuck with.
Sometimes dating works out that way a little bit too. If a person is "playing the field" there are many choices available at any one time. Of course we all want the top choice, but then again it's not like the games where that person is just picked and has no choice, they have to pick you too.
The more attractive you are (inside and out) the better choices to pick from will be presented to you.
If a person isn't putting themselves out there, is socially handicapped, overly shy, doesn't present themselves well, even if they are a great team mate, probably will be looked over by most and may end up with someone that wouldn't be a top pick by others.
Who doesn't want to be top choice to their own top choice? Who wants to end up with someone that they wouldn't have picked first? Settlers. Those who passively settle for something other than what they really want.

I've been thinking about this for awhile and I came to a realization. Pater Familias is my Top Pick. I would pick him first over anyone. And that made me really happy to discover.
