Body Count: “Body Image/Imagery” Is The Topic For The Ninth Virtual Symposium.

Good evening, I hope this finds you with that secret smile on your face.

This is my first time blogging about the topic for a virtual symposium. I don't know what I am doing. Or if my post will make it with the rest of them. I am supposing i am to blog on the voted in topic which is body image/imagery.

Many of us have a different view of our physical selves then others. I have heard for years, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I believe that is true.

We all have our types, we are attracted to. Someone my friend Sharon thinks is hot, I may or may not.


There are so many ways a person could go with this topic. I have people tell me I am pretty, or beautiful, or hot, sexy, or some other term of beauty.

For years, probably up until that last four or five years. I viewed myself as not desirable. I did not think I was pretty, or sexy or whatever. I believe I am not the only person that has had this self image of themselves.


One of the men in my life at the time said, Linda, when a man pays you a compliment like that, accept it and say thank you, whether you think you are or not.

I stopped and thought, he's right, so from then on, when a person, male or female pays me a compliment, I say thanks. The person that takes the time to compliment you has found you attractive. Don't take away from that.

If you hear it enough times, you begin to change your view and self perception. If you are a person like me, that learned to accept the compliments, it does change your attitude and view of yourself. I still shake my head though.


Everybody is beautiful, hot or sexy to someone else. Maybe not to you, but to someone else.


At least I wasn't considered a 3 o'clock girl, and........

I don't have to tie a pork chop around my neck.

So, my contribution to the ninth virtual symposium is, Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder, even if that person may be beholding you.

Great post! I agree with you about beauty being in the eye of the beholder. I have a friend with whom I shared a house for a short time. He had a few girlfriends over the years that he thought were absolutely gorgeous...I most certainly did not concur It all boils down to preferences, we all have them and they're all different
Everyone is on a different plane of intelligence. Some people's plane has not taken off yet!!

 It's said that all a woman needs to do to please a man is show up naked and bring food. If you did that, and brought pork chops, I'd be your willing slave. I do love me some pork chops!

It IS odd how people will react differently to a sincere compliment. I'm pretty blunt and outspoken, and I've sometimes got strange looks when saying something nice to a woman about her appearance. And I think it must often have to do with a negative self image.

cute, we won't have time for those pork chops, haha. That is correct, men would pay me a compliment, and I would always have an explanation of why it was not so. All because of my negative self image of myself. I have had men throughout my life tell me, I didn't realize how I looked, or how people reacted to me. All in a good way. I am thankful to the one that took the time and that finally said, Linda, whether you think so or not, just say thanks and nothing else. So, I do just that, I smile and say thanks. I am smiling now thinking of that. It's actually pretty easy, and some of that does rub off, and you start to change your self image. At least I have......thegrls
