" Daddys people were from Tennessee. . They came to Texas along with General Sam ..drawn ,as was Houston ,by the steady pull of promised prosperity .. There was land to be had ,acres and acres of it ..The bottom land along its eastern rivers was so rich ,that a sprig thrust into the ground would take root and sprout ..

It's alluvial plain was thickly forested with trees of countless variety,hardwood oak and hickory,tall pine with its soft yellow wood that was malleable and easy to shape .. The willow ,along the myriad creeks and branches, leaning over the slow moving water ,weeping for the lost moments .. the stately pecan ,graciously providing it's nutritious kernel to all ..
And the Magnolia, dogwood,crepe myrtle ,the Holly, a burst of color at eye level and above ..
