Thank you Thalia

Most bloggers here know that nicelipss66- Thalia- was the target of harassment and abuse by another blogger who was jealous of her popularity. That harassment didn’t peak with the infamous “Petition to Stop Transsexuals from Using Female Profiles’, but that was the reason for a number of bloggers to holler “Enough!” A number of bloggers were already talking about that systematic attempt to discredit nicelipss66 but for many others the petition crossed a line that was simply too much. The controversy appeared to culminate in both members being suspended briefly, but only the abuser was reinstated. There was indignation and outrage on account of this injustice. And also, for her abusers, smirking and self congratulation.

Only a few people know the hard work and tears it took for nicelipss66 to clear her name and be reinstated. They didn’t- and couldn’t- see the diligence and hard work it took for her to come back here. Plenty of us wondered if she’d even want to get back here, given her treatment previously. But she was determined to change the culture that had allowed her to be targeted that way. She refused to give in. I knew from the beginning that Thalia was honest and forthright. What I didn’t know was the strength of her resolve and the depth of her passion. She was not about to take this lying down.

Thalia not only succeeded in fighting her way back to this site, she got a commitment that gender bashing would no longer be allowed. She won a commitment that the Terms of Use would be enforced indiscriminately and fairly and that bullying of members would not be allowed. She won this for all of us, not just for herself. There have been some members who see this as a restriction of their freedom of speech. It’s clear that they want to retain the right to harass, bully and call people names with impunity. The absence of abuse is what they lament. They want to continue to use the anonymity of the internet to troll and harass other people. They also like to pretend that it’s impossible to be bullied or harassed. But cyber-bullying is a real crime. And it’s a crime that looks very different if you or someone you love is the victim. It’s easy enough for some to look away and say that it isn’t their problem. It may be a shame but they don’t want to get involved.

Thalia got involved.

I’ve heard it said that she’s ambitious. It’s certainly true that she has goals. Which one of us does not? But I’ve had a chance to listen to her about those goals and they certainly aren’t self serving or narrow in scope. What she fought for wasn’t only personal justice, but equal protection under the rules for every one of us. She wants honesty in competition for ranking and attention in the blogs. She wants an end to cheating by padding comment counts to rise higher in the list. I’ve also heard it said “Who cares? People will cheat, and the list isn’t important anyway.” We care because we care about cheating anywhere. And for all your disdain, ranking in the list is still important to some members. It’s certainly important to the site because they feature that list prominently on the main blogs page. I’ve heard it said that it’s human nature and you can’t stop it. Stealing is human nature and we have laws against that, don’t we? It doesn’t prevent every crime but it does protect us from a living free for all. What I’ve learned in my time is that when there are no rules, no one will play by any rules. Thalia won the opportunity for us all to play by the same rules, with no more favoritism.

This was hard. She was told she couldn’t win. She was told that the blogs have always been that way and she could never change it. Through her diligence, attention to detail and sheer hard work, change it she did. Many of us stood behind her and tried to help as best we could and that was due to Thalia’s integrity. I had no idea what would be the outcome of all this. In fact, I reckoned that we would probably not win anything at all, but lose big by being ignored. I was told too that we could not possibly change a thing. I was warned to be afraid. But Thalia made a believer of me and she has become the dearest of friends.

I can’t tell any of the details of what this woman went through to get us here. I have thought that maybe someday that story can be told. But for now at least, I wanted to acknowledge that it was not at all easy. It was an uphill battle all the way, and we’re all winners because she fought it, whether we recognize it or not. Freedom doesn’t mean simply freedom to do as we please. It also means freedom from certain things, like bullying, harassment and abuse.

Thank you Thalia, and Merry Christmas. I admire you, I respect you and I love you.

Some people see freedom as anarchy and vice versa. Same people also confuse freedom of speech with freedom to harass and bully. It is a shame we have these unsavory characters in such a small community as Blogland.

I only knew bits and small pieces of what went on but I know that Thalia is courageous, honorable woman who stood against bullies and won the fight for all of us.

Thank you Thalia!

Thalia is an excellent example of an honest, good hearted, fair person. She has gone through a lot and kept her head held high. I do not know all the behind the scenes turmoil she went through, but I know it was a difficult time & she left us for a while to get things and herself to a better place. Since she's been back, she's been in top of her game & there for ANY blogger, not only herself that has been attacked. She's an advocate for everyone to be treated equally & fairly. Much love to you KZoo for this post & to Thalia for being strong to stand up!!

Hear hear! We all owe Thalia a debt of gratitude for her suffering and hard work to make this corner of the internet a little bit Utopian.

I am lucky to be in the same community as this first class lady.

Merry Christmas Rachel. Sometimes it seems like we don't have much to celebrate, but I don't want anyone to forget what Thalia won for us right here on this site, in just this last year. Every now and then, truth and justice does win.

Merry Christmas Kzoo!!!!. I love you too, But OMG Kzoo, That is too much credit to me. cause I was never alone, a good number of great people from here were fighting for the right thing. I don't even know what to say about this. is way too much for me, for the first time since I been in the blogs, first time a post is making me blush and big time. not even the "Man in a red dress" or "Our top bloggers is a chick with a dick". comments got to me as this post have. Haha, I honestly can't take all that credit my people.

I also don't want people to think that I ask for this post, I am actually surprised to see it. I said this, cause I don't want anyone thinking or commenting that I am seeking attention or that I ask for this. I appreciated, but I don't deserved all this. it got done by a bunch of people involved. people that wanted a change. and they made it happen. all of you did. I was just in the middle of it. nothing would had gotten done, if all of you out there didn't said no more to bullies, standing up by me, protecting me with your shadow from the burning sun. and challenging them on it, you guys change the tide around. all I did was swing in it under you support. I say this, cause I want to take NO credit away from no one in here. we all deserved. I mean that. You guys made the blogs a much better place and pleasant for all, me included. you guys work your butt off with your posts against that evil petition. you guys were my shelter, every-time I need it a break. some wonderful bloggers were always there giving me kind words and support. some of you spend hours on the phone with me, especially one lady, she was there day or night. there was always someone from here talking to me on the phone. giving me love, courage and kind words. with out that. I would had never made it. I can't take that away from them. with out all the support I got. nothing would had happen. I thank you Kzoo, but as much as I appreciate this, I don't want this to sound about one person, because is about a large group of people, is about ALL of you here. you are an outstanding blogging community and that is why I am here with you. because I admired, respect and look up to many of you. I have learned a little bit from all of you. You guys and that experience, made me grow as a person. I am in debt with you all. that is why this post made me laugh in a way, cause I should be doing this for you guys, not you doing it for me

We also have to thank LesbianPersonals for being a site that welcomes everyone equally in here, including my LGBT community that I am VERY PROUD of being a part of it. LesbianPersonals is a site that is giving us their support. and I personally can never thank them enough for that. They have step to the plate. some of their employees have been outstanding. making sure that we all have safe, pleasant place to blog and share with others. A place where gay, bi or straight, transsexuals or CD's. Females or Males, No one has to worry about being bully, Harass, victimized or persecuted for being who we are. We cannot accomplish anything in here. Or we couldn't have this little space here to share with friends, and people from all over the world, with out LesbianPersonals as a company, the CEO, and the exceptional, outstanding employees, especially the abuse department for protecting everyone equally. I can definitely say this, I am a proud to be an LesbianPersonals member. This site has my respect in many ways. especially for giving all of us bloggers a little space to blog away. to get to know each other. we just need to understand that we can't have it all and have it perfect. and work with what is giving to us. Merry Christmas LesbianPersonals!!!

Thank you, but for me it wasn't that tough. I saw an innocent blogger being slandered. As I said in this post, I was warned that we couldn't win, and that we'd all go down in flames. Better that than not to try at all. All credit to one gutsy woman. I'm proud to know her.

Everything you say is true, my friend, but you can't shirk the responsibility you showed or the credit you deserve. I meant what I said- it was your own character and integrity that made this work. It made you easy to stand beside, just as it makes you so easy to love. I know very well you continue to do those same things that made us all safer. You're quite right that many people contributed to this effort, including a number of employees of the site. But my post wasn't meant to honor everyone- it was meant to honor you. In the final analysis, you were most responsible for reducing the vitriol and animosity here, and the infighting over status personified in that odious list. There is shared glory here indeed, and we have you to thank for it.

I knew very well that you wren't about to blow your own horn- so I blew it for you. I know I surprised you with this post. I also know that you'd never approve of this post if I had warned you, and I wanted to be sure that people know what you've done and how much I respect you for doing it. We sometimes get wrapped up in the moment and when we're having a bad year we forget that some great things happened during that year. You made our little corner of the internet a better place to be. It may seem like a small thing, but it's many of these small things that add up to very big things. Thank you Thalia.

dearest Thalia. I think we all know that you would never ask for such a post. and I also think we know kzoo will do what he wants to do.

Your gentle spirit and genuine kindness shine through in every post. But please, take credit for being a warrior princess as well. we need women like you who fight for what is right. who refuse to just take it. YOU made a difference. YOU did not back down. YOU stood up for many who were afraid to do so.

that is what Kzoo is celebrating. what we all recognize. so thank you, thank you THANK YOU.

You cannot conceive the many without the one.

Well said Bill. Freedom is directionaly proportional to responsibility not anarchy and irresponsibility. Narcissistic demagoguery is not free speech but hate speech. It is not only immoral but illegal. Merry Christmas and a fabulous New Year to you and Pam.
