I went with "Other" myself, cause it's no doubt a case of all of the above.

Or one hand doesn't know what the other one is doing.

Regarding this site, I tend to opt for cock-up over conspiracy theory. I don't think the site has the wherewithal to execute a plan!

They have deleted it with the best interests of the membership at heart, in an effort to stop people worrying un-necessarily!! My arse...........

I left a comment earlier which has been deleted by the site....they have also deleted my comments on the Support blog....wonder how long they will let this one stand.

My 2-cents on this
don't want members to know about the security breach? Not now, because they have posted it on the main page in a yellow banner. Should have said something soon as they knew.

don't want members to know how many accounts have been affected? Maybe, but we will probably never/can’t know with any real accuracy or certainty.

don't want members to know that it possibly happened a month ago - and they did nothing? That cat has already exited the bag.

don't know how to fix it? OK, but this is true for any breach of any company. The way thieves do this is constantly changing/adapting to security “fixes”. Therefore the fix is also a constantly moving target.

damage control because they are fudging their numbers way far and away low from what the news is reporting. I doubt they really know. And there is the number of “fake”, inactive and duplicate profiles to consider too.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

As you rightly add, except when money's involved. The switching of auto-renew options must be illegal.
