La Femme Damnee
La Femme Damnee This is a painting by Nicholas Francois Octave Tassaert titled La Femme Damnee....Woman Damned. I am just wondering why the fact that a woman who is being pleasured by three men is considered to be damned? I am pretty sure it's because this was painted in 1859 but I now want to study this artist and find out why he titled such an erotically beautiful scene of a woman being sexually pleasured in a not so nice way. I certainly don't think of this woman as damned. This artist frequently painted moral and religious themes and was more of a popular than a critical success, so that likely explains the repressive moralistic title. Become a member now and get a free tote bag.

I think she is "damned" because no one lover would ever do for her thereafter. Woodrow J. Evers

I have to disagree with Kzoo, at least in part. Octave Tassaert wasn't as popular with critics as he was with masses. Yes, as most artists, he reproduced religious scenes in his work, which usually happens as contract, paid works. Octave Tassaert's works included numerous sexually charged paintings and lithographs, many were blatantly explicit. I don't think the artist believed that woman was "damned". It was more like exclamation "That damned woman!" Here's an example of his many erotic paintings [image]

maybe she's damned because it will be hard to be satisfied with only one after this

I have to agree with SilverPhenix. Title of that painting shouldn't be interpreted as "Woman damned", but as "That damned woman" with an exclamation mark. Sometimes titles look deceiving and many critics make wrong assumptions. It helps to look deeper into works of an artist, all of his/her works, to understand the meaning of a particular piece. Another example of Nicholas Francois Octave Tassaert (often called Octave Tassaert) sexually charged pieces, this one is humorous - "The jealous cat". SilverPhenix and NaughtyInSO, Thank you for looking deeper into his work. I know when I translate from Spanish to English, I have to know both languages enough to understand the differences between literal and figuritive languages. It is understandable that KZoo came to the conclusion that he did, and more than likely, I would have only looked at his life and not the rest of his art. Thanks for the art lesson, ladies! kk The observant make the best lovers, I may not do right, but I do write, I have bliss, joy, and happiness in my life, Kitkat Come check out my blog KItkat1415 check out this post by me Adventures In Body Grooming #39 April Topic Link: What Lies Beneath If April Showers Oh Bloody Hell What Kind Of Weather Turns Me On Bloggers Symposium 40

Hmmm, I notice that there is not any background or setting. The people are just floating in air... I wonder if this is supposed to be somewhere other than an earthly setting? Heaven or hell.... Vive La Difference

Well, there's sure to be a religious, rather than a literal, meaning in the title, and there's plenty of ambiguity in the possible interpretations. Just wondering - are those 3 men, 3 women, the same lover in 3 different positions, or what? Thank you for an entertaining post! x My blog: Arjohn Read or seen GONE GIRL?
