Why so difficult?

Why does it appear to be so difficult to make connections with earnest people in this format. One would think that if you are willing to go through the labor of compiling a profile here, then you possess a degree of reality and seriousness of intent. However, I find this to be rarely the case. Is this my narrow experience, or do others find this to be true? Could it be explained by geography, or is this a worldwide phenomenon?
