Why Do People Lie?

I have been thinking about this question for quite a while. People do not need to lie if they do not have too. I know I have fibbed when I was younger myself but it was harmless and not hurting anything? Now I am older and more wiser here do realize telling the truth to people is better then not telling the truth. If you do it hurts people in variety of ways. I know people have probably lied about me on this site. It is probably not worth it to know about it. But you know in the end for me I tell the truth. So why do people lie? Just Curious.

 Hi Roxy, people lie on here cuase they want to make them selves look feel better I guess. It all comes back in the end so its better to tell the truth get it out in the open then go from there.

 There was a similar post on another blog about lying and I will answer this the same way. I think that either people are born liars or they learn that behavior because most small children lie--ask them if they got into your clothes and they tell you no, even though they are wearing some of them. I think people get better at it or at hiding it as they get older, but most people lie in one way or another; I know I have lied when I have been asked the proverbial 'does this dress make my butt look big' question because telling the truth is not really appreciated. Now, some people are way more honest than others but most lie.

Hello, lol agree some people get real good at lying that is like second nature to them. I know I would love to say things that were true but do not have the heart to do so. So I just keep quiet and mind my own corner so to speak. It is better to say something nice than nothing at all. Thanks for posting and expressing your view.

 Most, if not all, humans lie in either words or the hypocrisy in the way they live their lives. There's no perfection in the human race. There's no perfection in any part of life. It is what it is. Much of this site is made up of fantasy. Liars don't bother me at all, I expect distortions of the truth. History itself is many times simply filled by the viewpoint of those who wrote it. I salute you for your honesty and for your desire for only truth. I don't think you'll find very much of it on sites like this one.... I'm sure you'll find plenty of people who'll claim they never distort or lie. Those are probably the ones who are the biggest liars of all. xxxxdavid

 people lie because they don't like themselves. they think that they have to try and be something they aren't. little do they know that after talking to them for a little while that they will give themselves away.
not only that we all would like them more if they were honest in the first place. as for me i have crs syndrome. can't remember shit syndrome
so it is just easier to tell the truth than remember all the lies.

 Some people lie to be considerate of other peoples feelings, white lies...like at a dinner party, even if you didn't like the meal, you say you did. You do not want to insult the host or hostess. I guess that is fibbing. I am a strong believer in honesty. It is very important to me and what I seek in others. I do not lie. But I might bend the truth, if I think the truth will hurt someone's feelings (usually in a business setting). For those that are close and know me, they get nothing but complete honesty from me, even if they don't like it, they appreciate me for being honest.

People that lie to manipulate and get what they want, they are easy to spot and avoid, that is what I do

Hello, white lies are ok as long it does not effect the other person in such away. Yes in the end honesty is the best policy in the end the lies will show up maybe not right away but in time they will here. In a professional or business setting honesty should be on top of the list.  Depends on the person.. some lie by omission on their profile's by stating they are "single" when in fact they aren't... me, I'd much rather tell the truth... if it cost me a playmate so be it!!!! i don't like being a hypocrite by saying i hate liars but yet lie on profile's, ya know?
