Rules from a Man's perspective, well, at least this man (regardless of age).

1. Plain whit cotton t-shirts should only be worn wet, all others are ok.

2. The only jeans anyone should wear are Wranglers.

3. Shoes should be worn for comfort or sex appeal. Wearing boots with Wranglers is ALWAYS sexy and stilettos are sexy with limited clothing.

4. Mini-skirts,mmmmm, take um or leave em.

5. Excessive cleavage is always acceptable. Appropriate bras help the situation.

6. Wife beaters with no bra looks great while working in the yard.

7. Hair accessories? Other than a pony tail, why?

8. No over-sized, decorative handbags...ever, especially if you want you man to hold it for you at any time for any reason.

9. No underwear! Thongs are acceptable under certain conditions.

10. No loud accessories, here is where simple is classy regardless of age.

Ok, so maybe I am a pig....lol.

Those are pretty good rules. Number 8 explains why my boyfriend holds my purse out from his body, between his thumb and forefinger, when I ask him to carry it.

Thats pure Bull!!! There is plenty of ladies and men for that matter who are over 30 that don't look it.
If a lady who is 45 looks good as if she was 30 then more power to her. If she feels sexy in it, her personality sparkles more and shows it even more.
Throw the rules out! lol. But be realistic. If she's wearing a short mini skirt, and her boobs are showing thats a good sign not to wear it.
Your limited by your own limits.

I vote that from now on the men get to make the fashion rules for women. I think women are much too hard on other women, and on themselves.

Throw that rule book out!! If a woman can still dress sexy and look great then more power to her. You are as old as you feel and look. But don't dress like your going to Walmart either. Boots, heels and mini's will always be in fashion. If you look good then wear it. But don't have the hooker look either!! Be classy and tasteful!!
Good advice, too! Thanks.

You can be as old as you feel.
If you look good showing some clevage, show it, if your legs look good in a shorter skirt, wear it.
If you have a particular saying you like to wear, wear it. Be as old or as young as you feel.
Embrace life, don't put yourself in a box due to a certain age. If you can, then DO.
Of course it's up to you in the end.

The thing is that whether you look "good" or not is purely subjective. I'm sure the old lady in the picture thinks she looks good...

Pfft. It's a lousy list. I've known 60 year old women who can rock the miniskirt and turn heads, and 20 year olds who probably shouldn't. It all depends on how you feel. Attitude is everything - take it and run with it.

The pants clash with the cigar, though.

Now that I look at the picture a little more closely, I think it might be George Burns.

Some make sense, but it's still up to an individual. It's not so much what you wear, but more on how you carry yourself.

The guideline screams "DOWDY" to me.

That's what I was thinking, too. My mom will be 72 this year, and she can still wear short(ish) skirts without tights, and she doesn't carry a clutch or wear rubber-soled granny shoes when she dresses up. She doesn't look young anymore (because she isn't), but I think she manages not to look like a dowdy grandmother. I can't picture her in a tweed vest, either.

I'm not sure about fashion advice, but if I make it to that ladies age, I'm gonna wear whatever I want and smoke cigars, too!

It's sad, isn't it? I just bought a t-shirt with a drawing of doves flying in the shape of a peace sign. Maybe I should return it. It's not plain enough for an old person. But I was also noticing that the clothes in the "old lady" sections of the department stores are pretty. Some of the t-shirts have flowers or butterflies on the fronts, so maybe I'm not being inappropriate.
.
Let's keep our fingers crossed that it's becoming more socially acceptable to have fun with your clothing at any age!

    Quoting  :

I kept the shirt. I have the same problem with rules based on age and not on appearance. Like someone else said above, some people in their 20s don't look as good in certain clothes as some 60 year olds do.
