There are always some idiots going through the ice here. It isn't like they don't warn people enough. They also started fining people for going through the ice. The cars and trucks pollute the lake.

The perversity of the universe is unbounded.

Everyone thinks it won't happen to them! I wonder how that first crack sounds when you're out on a pond.

Thickness is not all there is to safe ice. If snow on top of ice freezes too quickly the ice that forms is unstable and not that strong. I am 'fenced in' by ice these days.
In Norway we have glaciers. The water from one of them is bottled and promoted as 'centuries old ice' and as my nephew pointed out to me, will only last two months in the bottle.

My island is covered with a thick scab of ice too.

Another side to pagophagia ... kissing each other's mouths and more while you exchange the ice cube is incredibly kinky and exciting. Play around with it while it's in her mouth or hold it in your teeth and outline various areas. Sex is all about fun, and a little water never hurt anyone.

I always used to ice skate when I was a kid. I was the one in the neighborhood who would get a hammer and punch a small hole in the ice to check it for thickness before venturing a walk.

Good advice as always. Skating, ice skating I mean is so much fun and very refreshing. Enjoy the winter, you're having one for the books this year.

Fire and ice in nature, two extremes,
Like life and death it seems.

If emotion could kill,
Then life would be still.

Being caught in ardent desire,
Is being in hell that's all fire.

Many a destruction is caused by
Emotion, love, fire and desire.

Ice can destroy just like fire,
What is life if there is no love and desire?

There is a lot of destructive power in ice,
Being cold and aloof drains life of any spice.

If I had my way for the world to end in fire or ice,
It seems that ice would be the compromise.

    Bud

Before the slush, we had a night-time skate with luminarias, a bonfire and hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps (not my favorite - but fit the occasion) It was magical!

Ice is both friend and foe. Alot of pros and cons depending on the situation
