Early Spring?

Early Spring?

while much of the country is reeling from another big storm, the Pacific NW
is enjoying its typical temperate weather. here in Portland, we barely had a
dusting of snow this year.

there are already signs of spring in our yard. the daffodils are rising about
8 inches out of the ground. dark purple violets pepper the yard (we sprinkled
some on papaya the other day). snow drops and hellebore are blooming.
my favorite, daphne, is very pregnant with blooms and should begin opening
any day now.

we had the makings of an early spring last year ~ warm late-winter weather
that brought a lot of spring flowers out early. but that soon changed and we
ended up with only 3 clear days for the entire 91 day span of spring. the
cooler weather played havoc on many flowers. i am hoping that we don't
have a repeat this year.

the photo of the snowdrop from our yard was taken a few hours ago.
