Getting a bit of snow here in Madison. Been on and off all day. Knew Minnesota was going to get hammered.
Just keep thinking "Spring WILL come." Sometimes I drop by Pier One this time of year as they have a lot of fake flowers and other Springlike things out. I find the sight cheering and sort of a promise.

If you see me in the real world, come say "Hi Justskin."

I always behave. Preferably not well.

Well.. 7 inches sounds ok... No? I mean, from what I read and know, 7 inches should be pretty satisfying... for most... No? 😊
How much do you need? Or what is the minimum that you you'd need? 🤔😘

You know it actually snowed here in Hawaii a couple of weeks ago... up on one of the craters on an outer island. I forgot which one though. I saw a photo of a snowcapped mountain on the news. It was kind of cool to see.

Voting by mail would be an improvement over what we currently have, at least here in DE. I don't see it happening as quickly as it should tho, since it means EVERYBODY'S vote might count and we all know the gop doesn't want that!!

It's almost a sisyphean task, getting people engaged in civic responsibilities.

We've had ice ice baby here, not much snow.

In the boonies we got snow and ice. If you have any spare dollars( I spent $400) you might consider investing in a ToroSA8 ( I think it has a new number now) and has a paddle system as opposed to blades. Mine runs on gas but has an electric start for the first pull. I have cleared as much as 8 inches deep in a 5 car drive way. all the way to the asphalt. The throw distance can be up to 25 feet so it clears the bushes and fence. My new driveway has been cleared by my neighbor as I am laid up and he loves my little machine- saves bringing his huge Arien down the street
In my mail I just got a survey from the RNC. I am quite sure it's coded so they know who fills it in. I really want to lambast them for their audacity about a lot of the content so I am hesitant to do it. Need to think on this another day

I fully agree with and support the notion of civic responsibility, and have served 4 years in the USAF as well as donated to veterans and to local police and fire many times in the past. I am a very civic person.

And I very much support voting and voting by mail. In theory.

Unfortunately, in practice, voting is very much broken. Voting by mail is asolutely a must-have. Secure voting by internet as well. But it's just a tiny fraction of everything that is wrong with America's implementation of democracy. Were I POTUS Maximus, first I would lay out a Federal mandate to standardize all city, county, state, and Federal voting to use identical (or at least nearly) ballot designs and systems to eliminate confusion. I would completely abolish the ability to vote for a party instead of a person. For that matter, I would also abolish parties as anything but a descriptor. Campaign funding and "donations" would all go into one pot and all running candidates for every position would get an equal share of the redistribution. Donations to individuals would be no more. Concepts such as the Electoral College also need to be tossed out the window. Popular vote wins, period. How many local elections have positions that run completely unopposed? That needs to be addressed as well. As does that judicial seats are all too often won by lawyers with agendas and biases instead of by impartial upholders of law. And don't even get me started on the insecurity and lack of accountability by modern e-voting when there are more than enough people out there that would be glad to perform reviews if only the systems were made open. A complete and total lack of accountability to constituents in general is also a huge problem. Et cetera ad nauseam.

Admittedly, I am an extremist on this. So surely many people will find room to disagree with me. Such is life. Such is why we rule by democracy.

No system is perfect, but I think that we as a country could do so much better if we only tried. And sadly, so long as no one runs with these issues as a platform, the only way that I can think of to send my vote of no confidence is to not vote until someone does while I pester my congress critters with letters. Which seems ... un-civic. But what else can anyone do?

Somehow "we the people" became the trodden of this system of democracy. And if you travel the world, you'll find that most other democratic nations agree with that view. If the world voted for the least-democratic "true" democracy, the US would likely win. Which is wholeheartedly depressing. But how do we fix that when there's no one to vote for representing that kind of change?

As much as I detest Trump, and never would vote for him, I think that's why he got so many votes. He was at least something different from the usual gaggle of politicians. Ronald McDonald for President isn't really so smart, but what do you do when the public voice demands Boaty McBoatface?

Troubling times. *sigh*

I like the idea of making a national holiday for voting, as well as expanded voting by mail. But I also think there's a need for young people to recognize what a civic duty voting is, as well as educating oneself on the issues (perhaps a reason to bring back Civics class to the high school curriculum). And that everyone could use a reminder that, despite the media's focus on the issues that divide people, we truly are in this all together. Even the person with whom we disagree has *something* to teach us, and is worth listening to.

And - surprisingly - when we feel listened to, and respected as people, much of the "polarization" we keep hearing about seems to become pretty minor.
