Negative Thoughts A Poem

Last night I had so much hope.
Then sometime during the night
It was gone.
Thoughts churned and churned
And the hope was lost
Much like a blender makes
It's ingredients into one.
It is good if you like to drink
Certain beverages without lumps.
But in my case something
Added just created
A bitter concoction.

I have a lot of work to do
To build up the strength
To fight off those negative thoughts
I think I should wear
A rubber band on my wrist
And anytime a negative
Thought enters my mind
I pull it back and let it bounce
Against my flesh.
This was a method we tried
As to get rid of bad habits
Like sucking our thumbs
Or biting our nails.

Is there another way
To derail those thoughts?
I suppose I could get
My head shrunk
But that costs a lot of
And my insurance barely
Covers a visit a month.
