Never have been hurt like that but ankles and knee Just started to walk on my own. I think you know best how to take of yourself I am sure. Start to walk and do test yourself is the best way to get back to full strength I think. Just sitting on your ass dose not help I think!
Wish the best for you Joy and I know your going to be fine!

Thank you for the update. I think, you are motivated to heal yourself. Good to know that you have great friend.
So let me know when you are going back to skate?

Glad to see you are doing well.
I had cataract surgery yesterday and am home for the next two weeks. Even with my weight restriction I am in hope to have a clean and organized house. Being male that will be REAL hard to accomplish.
Get well soon Joy.

So nice to be insane; no one asks you to explain.

Seems you and I are very much alike in so many ways!!

Was involved with a motorcycle wreck back when I was 25, hit a car broadside in the dark that was left sitting on the road. I was running a wee bit over the speed limit at the time, about 85mph to be exact. lol A lot of road rash of course, and did mangle my left ankle and leg up a bit and was placed in a cast up to my hip. Was told it was done to keep me from walking on it until it healed up properly!! Well, didn't stop me, a few days later was out digging holes to erect some towers fro myself and my mother in law at the time. Was a bit difficult with that damn cast, but I was successful anyway. Was told it would be at least a full year before I could return to my job, but was back at work in a bit less than six months.

Several other things happened over the years and treated them all in the same manner and was back to work in less than the time that was predicted by the doctors, etc.

The last thing that happened to me of significance, back in september of 2006, I was mowing around fire hydrants along the street sides in the village here and a truck with a trailer came down the road and the trailer came off and ran over me, the mower, and also the fire hydrant. I was lucky once again, didn't have anything but dislocated shoulder and some scrapes and bruises and was back out there mowing in about 4 hours time, after the ride to the hospital in the ambulance and the tests. As with you, all I wanted to do was get out of the damn place and all the stupid crap and them taking their damn sweet time with it all, and get back to what I was doing before!! lol

injuries I have had a few and like you got back to busy when I could,,a couple of those stopped me from working iron..when you can't lift weight or do the job I have stayed home unless ordered otherwise. Two rotater cuff injuries, one surgery to fix one, one partial torn spine disc, one spine fusion surgery,,followed the Doc's instructions with the spine surgery recovery, but was down that healing road twice. One fractured ankle, one torn ankle ligament, some torn upper back ligaments and one hernia surgery,,,crashed a few dirt bikes kind of hard but no real hurts from that, did a slide with the road bike,,got some road rash. Not sure, never went to the doc but did some damage to one wrist on the heavy bag,,took for ever to heal. One learns about healing one's self when they get banged up alot.
Wishing you the best with the up coming challenges.

So lovers, when injured, do you also like to test the limits of what and how your body can heal? Yes, I'm not very patient when it comes to being a . . . patient.

Do you get up and mobile as fast as you can? yup

What is the worst injury you have had and how long did it take you to heal in both body and mind? Broke my foot playing racquetball. Cast to over my knee for a few weeks, but I kept walking through it. No mind thing.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Have been fortunate to not get involved in accidents, the worst I've had is breaking my arm when I was five and a few minor cycling incidents over the years.

However a female friend had a similar argument with a car like you've described and came off worse - broken ankle, slight head injury, etc. She is a walker too but had to lay at home frustrated with her leg in plaster and the prospect of surgery to look forward to.

A few years on from that she has got most of her ankle movement back but it's not as "free" as it used to be.

I can't just sit around either, no matter when I'm sick or hurt and having 4 C-sections I came home and was doing everything I was doing prior to them. I think you heal much faster. Laying around only prolongs the healing process at least for me, and sounds like it for you as well my friend. I hope you heal quickly and get back to doing all the things you enjoy doing..

Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

Hi Joy.

whew... that was a close call...

and, you didn't see it coming...

sometimes, you post that you are about to get bad news... and... boom... you do...

well... I have been messed up in accidents and kidney stones and broken bones...

but... unlike you... my first reaction is to get into a fetal position and rest... sleep... sleep... heal... and... then... see where I'm at...

I don't like pain at all... and... I believe that rest and liquids and sometimes anti-biotics heal all...

but... always easy going... never one to rush anything...

You give me the wings to fly
You give me the wings to fly
You are the clear blue sky
I'm floating so free, so high
Falling with grace, for you, and I
You give me the wings to fly
You give me the wings to fly
You are the clear blue sky
I'm floating so free, so high
Falling with grace, for you, and I
You give me the wings to fly...

My worst injury was after being hit by a drunk driver when I was 31. I rolled over 3 times. My seat belt kept me secure and I ducked down in the seat just enough before rolling over to keep my head from getting mashed. I had some lacerations and a sore head and back.

Like you, I just wanted to get out of the hospital and get home and get healed and back to normal. Your ordeal is much scarier though than mine because I was at least somewhat protected in my vehicle when I was hit by the other vehicle. Having your body being hit by that SUV is painful and traumatic in the most frightening way. I hope you heal quickly my friend and I will be thinking of you every day as you get better both mentally and physically. If you need to chat send me an email anytime. Best wishes and lots of healing hugs for you.

Yes, the seat belt was a plus for sure. The ducking down part happened without any thought, just a lucky reflex action I think or maybe a higher power looking out for me. A couple of days after the crash I crashed mentally for a while even though I was strong in the mind and my adrenaline rush finally wore off. I cried and felt really angry for a bit. I wouldn't be surprised if that happened to you suddenly. It's all part of transitioning yourself and your body away from the trauma you endured and getting yourself healed mentally and physically in a healthy way. I would really be amazed if that didn't happen to you. I guess we would have to declare you the strongest person ever. But really, truly, I am grateful you are ok. Life is so fragile indeed.

Aw hey Missy....... Glad its not to serious.... But you sound like the patient from hell Injured enough to need to take it easy but not injured enough to know it .....

But I urge you to consider one thing.... What pain is, its the body telling you its hurt and to stop what you're doing to let it heal.... Sounds like you think that pain is something that you have to challenge and push to the limit??

So... Just lie back and give in to it a little, give it the best chance to heal....
Here endeth the sermon

Get better soon xxx

One more thing. I also dry heaved and felt really achy as well. After that I made the transition finally complete. Make sure to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated too. That's all. Take care.

When injured in my younger days it seemed that nothing stopped me from getting right back on the horse so to speak. Up and out the door a soon as I was able, most times with a butterfly stitch firmly attached to the recent injury, placed there by the young woman who lived up the street from us who was studying to be a nurse. Thing was back then you never really went to the Doctor, or to a hospital unless the injury was life threatening. As my parents were often fond of say well the injury is too far away from the heart to really be of any concern.
As I grew older, it took a little longer to recover from my "hurts" then it did when I was a kid. I think the longest time I've spent recovering was while in the hospital after my ear surgery's in my early thirties.
As for the worst injury I've ever had? Well, take your pick. Falling down a smacking my forehead on the neighbors cement steps steps as a six year old, or betting bashed on the head by a rock the size of a mush ball thrown at me by a friend, both of those injuries required one of those butterfly stitches I mentioned. It could be the time when I was learning how to ride a bike, when I ran into that telephone pole smashing the family jewels so badly that even my Dad, who was always one to say "walk it off" was concerned enough to think about taking me to hospital. Yeah, I never went, just got a really long ice bag treatment. Being hit by that car while riding my bike home from work ( told you about that one yesterday) Or being in that head on three car accident is another big one. ( one of the reasons I no longer like to drive). I think I've forgotten most of my mishaps but those are the ones that still stand out. The most recent injury was falling down those ice covered stairs a month or so ago. Yeah, I'm still getting hurt, and you know, I know it'll happen again. But like the rents told me as a kid...I'll walk it off, as I know it's too far from the heart to really hurt.

I'm glad your okay Joy! Stiff and sore I know, but it'll pass. As I said, take it easy and rest up my friend. Don't push yourself too hard.

I know how frustrating it must be for you but it's better to walk before you can run.
I'm still healing from my spinal operation that I had 10 years ago.

Way back in the 70's, I had an auto accident! Because I was braking hard at the point of impact, the force of the impact travelled through my leg breaking my Ankle and Femur! I came round in the wreckage with my broken right leg crossed over my left with my toes towards my face Thinking to myself this is not right, however due to the shock I didn't feel any pain, that came later!!

Taken to hospital by ambulance, where they put a pin in my right shin and set the Femur in Traction, and strapped up my ankle. I spent 10 days in that Hospital, and because I was in the Airforce moved to the nearest Military Hospital. Where I spent the next 3 months fastened to a bed, until the traction was removed. I was then transfered to a Rehabilitation Centre, where I exercised to rebuild the wasted leg muscles and learned to walk again.

Total time out of action was about 6 months, no real lasting problems, except for occasional stiffness and a little Rheumatism in cold and wet weather.

I've never really had an an injury, just a fall on the ice when I was taking adult skating lessons. I'll return to that at the end of this comment.

But I have had over 13 surgeries, including 2 c-sections and a hysterectomy. My 1st major surgery as an adult was on my rear end (won't go into the details), and even with drainage bags etc., I was up walking on the 1st post-op day, dragging an IV pole just as you did.

During my later surgeries, I was also up on the 1st day, and the nurses said it was always the smokers who recuperated faster, because they had to drag themselves outside to be able to have a cigarette. It IS true.

That early activity has always helped me recuperate quickly, and I remember thinking people were "odd" because they whined and moaned about not feeling better, when they were doing nothing to help themselves heal. In a lot of cases, I believe, it is "mind over matter". If you don't test yourself, then how will you know what you can do, and how quickly you can do it?

And now, back to that skating injury. I never learned to skate as a kid, and took adult lessons for 3 years in my 40s. One night, as we were practicing gliding, edges, stroking etc. etc., as we were learning the Dutch Waltz, one of my classmates said "let's try gliding on 1 foot, like C is doing over there in her spiral". My balance was thrown off as I lifted my back leg, and my feet skooted right out from under me. My hand that went down took all the impact, as it jarred up my arm into my shoulder. Now, 25 years later, the occasional pain and stiffness in that shoulder is showing signs of arthritis.

I kind of gloat on the fact that I can blame it on a figure skating injury, when I fell doing a spiral. LOL
