cam issues

When I log on IM and broadcast, it says I am broadcasting but when I or someone else opens my broadcast it says I have stopped broadcasting. I checked on the help board and it says hold down control key and click on the broadcast window to show settings ( im on a Mac). this menu they say will pop up doesn't. any one out there can help?
