How was your day?

Last night after I had made my blog post, I did a little research on armadillos. Yes, certain types can carry leprosy. Touching them, eating them, even just digging in the dirt they have been digging. So putting my flowerbed back together requires gloves. Got it.

It also said certain scents repel them. Yes!! I had cayenne pepper in my cabinet - so out I went. And guess who was wedging itself under my sidewalk, right by a set of french doors? Armadillo!!! Holy cow dude.

He didn't scoot back out when I talked to him. Stubborn thing. I went ahead and dumped the whole bed with cayenne pepper spice. Not sprinkled - DUMPED. I had a huge container and I used it.

I tapped dillo on the tush and it made a noise but did not come out from the sidewalk. Fine. I put on heavy leather gloves and grabbed hold of his tail. Yeah, I'm that kind if crazy. Pulling with one hand did nothing. Dillo was digging in. I stepped over the stone wall so both of my feet were in the bed, bent over and grabbed its tail with both hands. Then grabbed closer to his body.

Y'all I was pulling with all I had and Dillo wasn't budging. Finally I mustered a yank a bit to one side and a little more Dillo emerged. More pulling and I'll be darned, he was pulled from his tunnel!!! Go me!!

Oh heck he is fighting like mad!! I am struggling to hang on to its smooth tail as I lift it up over the wall and turn around to the sidewalk. I am holding it as far away from my body as possible. It's kicking and churning! And its tail slid out of my grasp ... It launched forward and the dummy launched straight into my pond. Sighsss ......

Now I am standing there with my mouth hanging open as I watch this armadillo frantically swimming a lap around the pond, pausing here and there in an attempt to climb out. A vision of me having to net the nutty thing floated thru my mind. He finally found a grip on one of the rocks. Dillo climbed out of the pond and skedaddled across that sidewalk and headed east as fast as his stubby legs would go. Which is surprisingly fast.

I looked with a flashlight and never found the sucker. I pushed some dirt into its tunnel and added a big rock plus some smaller rocks. Added more cayenne pepper over it all. I will work it over better when the weather breaks.

And this is the second chapter of my armadillo saga.
